Jakarta is all that you would expect and more... it is a vast, chaotic, crazy Asian city, it is more than full of life, but it is never dull.
Jakarta is massive, polluted and over-crowded, with traffic jams bringing the streets to a halt, and luxury shopping malls towering over shanty towns. But it is worth exploring if you find yourself here for a night or two at the beginning or end of your Indonesia holiday, especially the peaceful area of Tangkiban, which has a volcanic crater and hot springs and is a welcome relief from the madness that is downtown Jakarta.
