Malaysia East Coast

The east coast of Malaysia is far removed from the rest of the country, with traditional Malay fishing villages dotting its coastline of white, sandy beaches.
This side of the country is often overlooked, which is a shame as it has so much to offer! A little curiosity is richly rewarded on this sleepy coast.

Just off the coast, in the South China Sea, there are several idyllic islands offering a rustic and yet  deeply relaxing adventure.  The Perhentian Islands and Tioman Island provide great snorkelling and diving opportunities. On the coast itself, you can visit traditional Kampong villages, deserted sandy beaches, colourful markets and, if you are here at the right time - mainly between May and August  - you might catch a glimpse of the large Leatherback Turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs during the night.

There are also some of the finest Mosques here, and one or two rarely-visited national parks. The East Coast has more to it than many people suggest, it just needs a little time to be discovered.
