Yudanaka

This small mountain village is home to the world famous bathing 'snow monkeys'; wild macaques which wander down from the surrounding mountains to enjoy open hot spring therapy.
The best time to visit the Jigokudani Monkey Park is in winter, when snow covers the ground and troops of monkeys come down to the hot springs to bathe, play and socialise with each other. There are many traditional ryokans here, at which to stay. Oddly enough, very few tourists make it up to this mountain village, so often when you come you will be one of the few people here and your photos will enriched by monkeys only.
